Bio
Dr. Tanya Ratcliff is a Clinical Psychologist, College Professor, and an Academic Researcher. She has been working in the mental health field for over 20 years with a strong emphasis in the Academic Medical environment. Her primary focus is on minority health disparities, women’s issues, black men and trauma, Inter and Intrapersonal Relationships, Violence and Racial Trauma specifically within the African, and African American populations. Her research on violence, traumatic brain injuries, infectious diseases, and the intersectionality of HIV, IPV, and black college students is published in peer reviewed academic journal articles.
As founder of Ratcliff Behavioral Medicine and Research (RBCR), she cares for multiple mental and emotional conditions including people with depression, postpartum depression, anxiety, and emotional regulation, to name a few. Her expertise is in providing empirically and culturally based treatment interventions for a multicultural client base for individuals, couples, children, and seniors. Dr. Ratcliff uses CBT, Mindfulness, and an eclectic therapeutic model all within an African Centered (Mind, Behavior, Spirit) Psychological framework to give optimal service to all.
Academically, she teaches courses in psychology, social science, and African American Studies at the City Colleges of Chicago. She has a Bachelor of Arts in Applied Behavioral Science, two Masters of Arts degrees in African American Studies, and in Counseling Psychology from Clark Atlanta University, and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Clinical Psychology from Jackson State University. Her Specialization in Behavioral Medicine and Bio-Behavioral Research is earned from Brown University Medical School. She also has a list of certifications, awards, and grant funding in the field of psychology.
Dr. Ratcliff has an extensive history of giving lectures and presentations at professional seminars, and conferences, domestically and internationally including in Spain (Madrid), Pretoria and Johannesburg, South Africa, and Swaziland, Africa on selected topics covering African Diasporic Social Justice, Racial Mental Health Inequities, and Women and Gender Issues. She has several years of successful work within behavioral medicine as a Psychologist on Psychiatric Medical teams at Atlanta Medical Center (Atlanta, Ga), Miriam Hospital, Butler Hospital, and Veteran’s Administration Hospital, all in Providence, Rhode Island. Most recently she has expanded services to offer life and career coaching, and Family oriented classes in African American studies.
Dr. Ratcliff has lived all over the country but is proud to be born and reared in Chicago. She enjoys reading, writing poetry, bicycling, traveling, and spending precious time with family and friends. She lives by the motto “if you think education is expensive, try ignorance.”
